NPUAG VAB
Npuag Vab (1874-1963) was the second eldest son of Yawg Nkias Tub and See Thao. He had three wives, Mee Thao (1870-1975), Mao Vang and Shoua Vang. He had the total of 14 children; three sons and three daughters with Mee Thao, two sons and five daughters with Mao Vang, and one daughter Shoua Vang.
Npuag Vab was a blacksmith and a successful handyman. He made Hmong rifles, machetes, brush cutter sheaths, brush thinners, axes, garden hoes, and so on. He was also a good bamboo weaver; using bamboo and rattan strips, he would make floor nets, grain/corn storage silos, rice containers and rice service bawls, carrying baskets, seating stools and serving tables. Npuag Vab was also a skillful wood sculpture. He made a lot of wood carving spoons for sale. During that time about 90% of the surrounding neighbors used Npuag Vab’s wood carving spoons. In addition to these, he was also a shaman who performed spiritual shamanism to heal the sick and the weak. His shamanism practice will be part of his legacy which will be in the memory of the Kiatoukaysy Family as well as friends and relatives.
