Vam Lis autobiography

Vam Lis (1915 - 1966) was the second eldest son of Boua Va and Mee Thao. He married Mee Ly, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cheuneng Faychong Ly. He and Mee had a total of 14 children, but because of the Vietnam War and the lack of hospitals, only 3 sons 3 daughters along with an adopted daughter survived to adulthood.

As a successful business man he became the second Naiphong in the District council of Hong Nonh, within the city of Samneua. With his ability and strong leadership skills, he became the First Hmong Leader to bring education to the Hmong community "the Mountain People". During this time in Laos, teachers were limited, so in 1948 he hired Baothan, a well educated private teacher to teach the children within the Hong Nonh District as well as the surrounding neighbors. These actions lead to a local school being built so that the children could attend. From 1949 -1951 he was able to secure a public teacher from the Department of Education of Samneua Province. Vam Lis desire to educate and his ability to make it possible remains his legacy with the Kiatoukaysy
